  • Tannadice School: Containerised 300kW Binder in Scotland

Tannadice School: Containerised 300kW Binder in Scotland

Tannadice is a typical rural school in Angus, Scotland. Early in 2007 Angus Council decided that wood-fuel heating should be encouraged where ever possible. Bill Watson from Angus Biofuels has built a large wood-fuel processing centre nearby and has provided the full turnkey design-and-build package for the Council.

A Binder 300kW boiler was selected and, due to the locally available excellent quality fuel, it was decided to use an underfed hearth system. The boiler system has a fully automatic heat-exchanger tube-cleaning system based on high velocity air flow, exhaust-gas recirculation control system and a cyclone to remove particles within the flue gas.

    Wyesham School, 149kW wood-chip boiler

The new Wyesham School in Monmouth is a new-build nursery and primary school for 210 pupils designed by White Design architects and built by Willmott Dixon for Monmouthshire County Council to a BREEAM excellent rating. The 149 kW wood-fired Binder boiler is the only boiler in the school and the system has been designed to work on either wood-pellets or wood-chips. The Binder boiler system also incorporates a fully-rated standby gas burner which will automatically be engaged should the underground 44 cubic metre wood-fuel store run empty. The system has been commissioned on locally-produced wood-chip fuel under a fixed-price metered-heat contract, i.e. pence per kWhr delivered into the building. The system also features the Binder Graphics system, which has a remote monitoring capability.
