  • Netham Park Pavilion, 150kW wood-chip boiler

Netham Park Pavilion, 150kW wood-chip boiler

Netham Park's new community sports pavilion in east Bristol has a range of facilities including a changing rooms, a café and community room. The building, on two storeys, was funded by Bristol City Council, Community at Heart, the Football Foundation and the English Cricket Board and designed by the architects Alec French Partnership to incorporate the needs of the local community now and into the future.

The pavilion has its hot water and heating provided by a 150kW Binder boiler fuelled by wood-chip. A 2000L buffer tank has been included to allow for high instantaneous hot water usage, for example, when the showers are in use, and to reduce the short-cycling of the boiler under low-load conditions.

Dunes Leisure Centre, 230kW wood-chip boiler

The newly refurbished Dunes Leisure Centre in Southport is heated with a biomass boiler provided by Wood Energy Ltd. Sefton Council's decision to use biomass to heat the centre is a cost effective method of lowering carbon emissions providing heat to the leisure centre including the 25m main pool and an adjacent 13m teaching toddler pool along with the large sports hall. Initially, wood pellets will be used but the aim is to eventually use locally produced wood-chip.
